The VOE program provides instruction and reinforcement in the areas of adapted career development, skills training, and life skills using a hands-on comprehensive curriculum for high school students with more significant disabilities. Students learn real world job skills using adapted curriculum with simplified text and integrated visual supports. Students exit the program with a better understanding of the job world and careers that interest them.
Students must meet credit requirements to be classified as having 9th to 12th grade status
Will be active learners by being engaged in meaningful activities while learning important social, life, and work-related skills
Will be reviewed annually for students who are working toward alternate assessment standards and who may be transitioning to the work force or our post-graduate program
The student, parent, home school guidance counselor, and principal must complete an application for the Wise County Alternative Education Center. Appropriate students will be scheduled for an interview and achievement testing. An application committee will make recommendations for acceptance or denial and the Wise County Alternative Education Center principal must grant approval.
TIME AND LOCATION
VOE is a half-day program.
Attendance may be in the morning or afternoon, dependent upon classes needed at the student’s home school and the home school schedule
VOE is located at the Wise County Alternative Education Center (Building D), 515 Hurricane Road, Wise, Virginia.
