Credits Needed For Grade Placement


TO BE PLACED IN A GRADE A STUDENT MUST HAVE


To be placed in grade level-09 a student must have passed at least five 8th grade blocks, one of which must be English or math.

To be placed in grade level-10 a student must have earned at least 6 credits toward graduation.

To be placed in grade level-11 a student must have earned at least 12 credits toward graduation.

To be placed in grade level-12 a student must have earned at least 18 credits toward graduation.



Homeroom Placement

A student who can graduate at the end of the regular term or at the end of summer school may be placed in a senior homeroom.

Students in an eighth grade homeroom for the second time who are enrolled in 9-12 courses will receive credit toward graduation for those 9-12 courses passed.


STANDARD DIPLOMA

To graduate from high school with a standard diploma, a student must have earned at least 24 credits. The two additional units of elective credit are to be selected from the four core academic areas of English, mathematics, science, and history/social science.

ADVANCED STUDIES DIPLOMA

To graduate from high school with an advanced studies diploma a student must have earned at least 28 credits in addition to meeting all other requirements. The four additional units of elective credit are to be selected from the areas of English, mathematics, science, history, social science, foreign language or fine/practical arts.

Only one required English course and one required social studies course may be taken per school year. Exceptions will be made for those students who need to repeat a required course or are in an alternative program.

ATTENDING THE CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTER

Credits available for students enrolled in Career and Technical Education Center. Students attend classes at the Career and Technical Center.

Career & Technical Education Center Classes are based on a 4 Hour Block Schedule and students receive the following Career Ed. Units Of Credit:


Career Tech 2 units per semester 4 units per year

Technology I unit per semester 2 units per year

Mathematics I unit per semester 2 units per year

Pre-Career Clusters 1.5 units per semester 3 units per year

Pre-Career P. E. .5 units per semester 1 unit per year
