National School Counseling Week (NSCW) is an annual celebration dedicated to recognizing the unique contributions of school counselors within U.S. school systems. It highlights the impact they have in helping students achieve academic success and plan for their futures. NWCW is held the first full week of February--February 2-6, 2026.
This week, Wise County Public Schools joins school districts across the nation to celebrate National School Counseling Week. Our school counselors are the heartbeat of our student support systems, working tirelessly to ensure that every student is seen, heard, and empowered.
This year’s theme, ‘School Counselors Amplify Student Success,’ perfectly captures the essential role these professionals play. Beyond academic scheduling, our counselors are trained mental health leaders who bridge the gap between home and school, helping students navigate social-emotional challenges and chart their paths toward future careers.
We invite our entire community to take a moment this week to thank a counselor for the profound impact they have on our students’ lives today and their successes tomorrow.

Wise County Public Schools will be CLOSED on Thursday, January 29, 2026!

Wise County Public Schools will be CLOSED tomorrow, Thursday, January 29, 2026.

To the students and families of Wise County,
We are sharing the following information on behalf of Wise County officials to ensure our community remains informed and prepared:
WISE COUNTY, VA - Wise County residents are encouraged to register for the new Wise County Resident Alert System, powered by Everbridge, which is replacing the CodeRED notification system, as a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for our area this weekend, January 24–25, 2026.
The new alert system provides timely and important notifications related to severe winter weather, road conditions, public safety incidents, and other critical information affecting the community. By enrolling, residents may receive alerts through multiple methods, including phone calls, text messages, and emails, based on their personal preferences.
With a Winter Storm Watch in effect, officials stress the importance of having multiple ways to receive emergency notifications. Weather conditions can change rapidly, and receiving alerts through more than one method helps ensure residents do not miss critical updates needed to prepare homes, plan travel, and take appropriate safety precautions.
Residents are also encouraged to closely monitor local weather forecasts and make plans accordingly. Preparedness guidance, including information on creating an emergency plan for winter weather, is available at www.ready.gov/plan.
Residents who were previously registered with CodeRED are reminded that they must sign up for the new Wise County Resident Alert System to continue receiving notifications.
Participation in the Wise County Resident Alert System is free, and all personal contact information will be used solely for emergency notification purposes.
Residents are urged to take a few minutes to register now to stay informed and prepared as winter weather approaches this weekend.
For more information or to sign up, residents should visit the Wise County Member Portal at:

Today, Monday, January 19, 2026, Wise County Public Schools celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Dr. King’s legacy reminds us that leadership and service are inseparable. As he famously said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"
On this #MLKDay, let us take time to reflect on how leadership and service are inseparable in the world of education. We don't just teach subjects; we mentor future citizens. Dr. King’s persistent question—"What are you doing for others?"—serves as the ultimate rubric for educational success.
