Cal II

If a student takes Algebra I as an 8th grader, they will take Algebra II a single semester in the 9th grade. Students can then take Geometry and Math Analysis in their 10th-grade year. Followed by Pre Cal I & II as a junior and Cal I & II as a senior.

An alternate path would be, Algebra I in 8th grade and Algebra II and Geometry in their 9th-grade year. The student may opt-out of Math Analysis and take Pre Cal I & II as a sophomore; however, the student would not be permitted to take Cal I & II until their senior year. This path is available upon parent request but is not advised by school personnel, due to the year gap between Pre Cal in the sophomore year and Cal in the senior year.

General Education Certificate Requirements

Program Description:

The General Education Certificate is designed as an intermediate step on the student's progress toward a two or four-year degree. This certificate is awarded as recognition of completion of a core of specified general education requirements in the associate degree program. The associate degree is the gateway for transfer to a senior institution through one of many articulations and guaranteed admission agreements currently available to MECC students. For more information on programs for transfer to four-year colleges, review MECC's Associate of Arts & Sciences degree program.

Program Requirements:

Students are required to take English and Mathematics placement tests. Developmental classes in these areas may be required. Students may qualify for college credit for verified on-the-job experiences.

Students are encouraged to check the mathematics requirements of the four-year college or university to which they plan to transfer to determine the appropriate courses to be taken at MECC. In addition, students should contact the appropriate four-year institution to determine the transferability of electives. Students planning to become teachers should check the requirements of Teacher Education programs at four-year institutions.

Associates of Arts and Sciences Degree Requirements

Program Description:

The Associate of Arts & Sciences degree programs are designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program. The Associate of Arts & Sciences degree also prepares you to enter pre-professional programs in the areas of Dentistry, Law, Medical Technology, Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and Radiologic Technology.

Program Requirements:

Entry into the program requires the satisfactory completion of four (4) units of high school English, two (2) units of high school algebra, one (1) unit of geometry, one (1) unit of laboratory science, and one (1) unit of social science or their equivalent.

Deficiencies in these areas may be corrected by completing the appropriate developmental studies courses. Students are encouraged to check the mathematics requirements of the four-year college or university to which you plan to transfer to determine the appropriate courses to be taken at MECC, as well as to determine the transferability of electives.
