The Paws & Claws Club is currently accepting pet supply donations for the Wise County Animal Shelter. This supply drive will run for the next 2 weeks. Items needed include: dog & cat food, cat litter, clean used towels, blankets, throws, cleaning rags, & bleach. Monetary donations will also be accepted to purchase supplies. Please send donations with your student or feel free to drop off. A collection table has been set up in the Commons Area. Thank you!

Schools will dismiss early at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th, in observance of the mid-point of the first nine weeks grading period. Teachers are reminded that they are expected to participate in scheduled professional development activities until 3:30pm.

Effective the week of September 8th, any student who is considered chronically absent will not be permitted free admission to any extracurricular events at Eastside High School.
We believe consistent attendance is essential for academic success and full participation in school life. This policy is intended to encourage accountability and promote positive engagement with the school community.

The school communities of Wise Central High School and Eastside High School came together tonight to kick off the fall football season in true spirit in Coeburn, VA. The band was celebrated, the cheerleaders brought energy and excitement, and the atmosphere was electric as we welcomed back high school football! A proud moment for both schools—here's to a great season ahead!

Attendance Laws/Wise County Policies
* Parents are permitted to use 5 parent notes per semester to excuse absences for sickness, family emergencies, etc. (turn in to front office within 3 days of the absence to be accepted)
* Once reaching 5 total absences in a semester, only Dr's Excuses will be accepted to excuse absences, when/if you reach that point, a letter will be mailed home notifying you of this each semester- (also must be turned in 3 days to be accepted)
* Once a student reaches 5 unexcused absences in a school year, staff from Eastside will be in contact with you and/or your student to discuss a plan to improve attendance.
* A mandatory parent conference is scheduled at 6 unexcused absences
* 7 or more unexcused absences will result in a truancy referral
* A student who has missed 10% or more of school at any given time during the school year is considered chronically absent, which may result in loss of privileges and activities.
