Administration

Principal - Fran Balthis

I am blessed to be able to say my whole career has been at J. W. Adams Combined School.  I spent 13 years as a special education teacher and then transitioned into the administrative role as assistant principal.  This is my first year in the principal position and I am so excited to be working with our very talented faculty and staff to provide the best education possible for all students.

I have always been a member of the Pound community and am proud to say that I, as well as my children are  products of J. W. Adams.  My husband, Tim, and I raised our three daughters while being active members in the community.  We have 7 grandchildren that keep us busy and are the loves of our lives.  When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, camping, reading, and being outdoors.  I am eager to see our students achieve this year and grateful to be a part of the J. W. Adams family.

Assistant Principal - Suzanna Taylor

I am so excited to return to J. W. Adams Combined School as the assistant principal this year! J. W. Adams is where I once attended school as a child and has always been a special place for me. Before coming to J. W. Adams this year, I previously taught adult basic education classes for the Virginia Department of Corrections. I was the assistant principal at Wise Primary School for over five years, and I taught at J. W. Adams for 17 years. My very first year of teaching started at Pound High School.

My husband, Robert, and I live in the town of Wise, Virginia where we have raised our three daughters. Our girls are now attending college and embarking on new journeys. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, and tackling home projects. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing school family! I can’t wait to experience all of the exciting adventures this school year brings!
