Each year the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) recognizes professional school counselors during the second week of February for their crucial role in public education. Our school counselors are school-based mental health professionals who possess a rare combination of training and experience that makes them a unique and integral part of our total educational program. Through comprehensive, data-informed school counseling programs, our school counselors improve a range of student learning and behavioral outcomes. They support both the closing of achievement gaps and help maximize student success by providing counseling, academic and career development interventions, and mental health supports. We are thankful for our School Counselors and all that they do for our students!

Wise County Public Schools will now operate on a CODE 0 Schedule on Friday, February 4, 2022. A Code 0 Schedule means there is no virtual learning and all schools are closed.

Updated VDH and VDOE Guidance for K-12 Schools is linked below. It includes a flow chart that explains steps that must be taken when a student has symptoms or is exposed. While Governor Youngkin’s Executive Order Number Two gives parents the right to choose if their child masks at schools (masks required on buses) this document contains details of how quarantines and isolations are required to be handled by schools.
