Wise County Public Schools will be closed the week of November 25th for our Thanksgiving Break! We hope that all of our faculty, staff and students enjoy the break! We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Monday, December 2, 2024!
Wise County Department of Social Services has initiated the D-SNAP program for residents of Wise County who were impacted by hurricane Helene.
The eligibility criteria for D-SNAP is less strict in order to provide food assistance to households that might not otherwise qualify for SNAP. *If you are not already a SNAP recipient* we will take in-person applications Monday, November 18, 2024 through Friday, November 22, 2024 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm at 10365 Pinnacle Dive, Wise VA 24293.
Be sure to bring your ID when coming to apply. You will also need to be able to provide demographic information for all members of your household including Social Security Numbers. You must be in line before 6:00 pm Friday, November 22, 2024 to receive an application.
**Current SNAP recipients** do not need to apply. An automatic supplemental allocation will load to your EBT card by November 22, 2024.

The Virginia Department of Health has announced dates for their flu vaccination clinics for our students. Students at Alt Ed are scheduled to have their flu vaccines on October 10, 2024. The parent letter and registration form are linked below!

The Virginia Department of Social Services will issue a one-time $120 food benefit through
Virginia SUN Bucks beginning August 2024 to children who qualify. Children qualify and are
automatically enrolled in Virginia SUN Bucks if they receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or an income-based Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid). If you are not enrolled in SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid you can apply and potentially qualify for Virginia SUN Bucks by visiting VirginiaSunBucks.com and mailing the application to:

Applications will not be available until July 1, when the webpage goes live. The Application for SUN Bucks will require you to enter your child’s “Local Student ID Number.”
Contact the school your child attends to get this number. If you qualify, SUN Bucks benefits will be distributed beginning August 2024 on a rolling basis and will be loaded onto your current SNAP EBT Card or a Virginia SUN Bucks card.
The Tyler Giles Junior Youth Golf Day at Lonesome Pine Country Club will be held on July 30th! Free Golf Lessons, Free T-Shirts, Free Food, Free Golf and Give Aways for Junior Golfers (17 and under) starting at 9 a.m. Clubs will be provided to those who need them! Spring Vaccinations to be available at Alternative Education Center on April 9, 2024
The LENOWISCO Health District is pleased to be able to offer a school-based adolescent vaccine program to assist parents in meeting the requirements for students who are rising 7th graders or rising 12th graders to receive school required immunizations. This clinic will include Tdap, Menigococcal vaccine, and HPV vaccine. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to comply with this school enrollment requirement.
School-based clinics will be conducted during the month of April 2024. These will be held at Alternative Education Center on April 9, 2024. The consent forms must be returned to your child’s school no later than March 27, 2024, with a copy of the front and back of your child’s insurance card.
